n.V3-3.05 | THREE PRODUCTION MODELS: PI, PI LIGHT, PI JOINT

01| Some things the barrio cannot build yet. A water treatment system, a licensed electrical installation, a clinic that meets health regulations — these are not problems that community motivation solves. Insisting otherwise, in the name of empowerment, is idealism that gets people hurt.

02| So PI Production runs three models, all listed on the same PI Exchange, all subject to the same competitive logic. No guaranteed funding in any of them.

03| PI — Maveriqs only. The primary model and the reason the platform exists. Kikundi teams design, fund, implement and maintain their own projects. No professional leadership. This is where the self-perpetuating loop lives, and if this pillar does not eventually carry the majority of production, IkoCiti has not done what it claimed.

04| PI Light — the professional leads, Maveriqs are on the team. Listed in its own section of the Exchange. The professional designs and runs the intervention; rookie and junior Maveriqs work inside it, learn the methods, and share the credit. Including Maveriqs is not goodwill on the professional's part. It is the condition of access to the market. A professional who wants IkoCiti money takes IkoCiti's people.

05| PI Joint — split the project in two. The professional executes the technical build. In parallel, Maveriqs run two workstreams of their own: an adoption project that gets the barrio actually using what was built, and a maintenance project that activates the day the professional leaves. Two projects, one handoff point, designed together from the start. The professional's work does not evaporate because the infrastructure to sustain it was built before the exit, not promised after it.

06| These are not a hierarchy. PI is not morally superior to PI Joint. They address different project types at different capability levels, and a barrio running all three simultaneously is a barrio where progress is not hostage to a single mechanism.

07| That last point is worth stating plainly to funders, because it changes the shape of the risk. Every conventional intervention is a single bet: it works or it does not. If IkoCiti's empowerment pillar develops more slowly than we projected — and there is a serious chance it will — PI Light and PI Joint keep rebuilding the barrio while the PI pillar gets the time it needs. The trajectory stays forward. Slow development in one pillar does not force a premature verdict or an early exit.

08| Who decides which model a project uses? The barrio. The central organisation and the local CITI office can advise. They cannot impose. Maveriq groups in the area must be consulted and must agree. Without that consent it is not PI Light — it is outside professionals doing top-down work under our logo, which is the thing we were built to replace.

09| Every professional-led project carries a capability transfer plan: what Maveriqs will learn, how they are involved, how the knowledge gets documented, and when Maveriq-led work becomes the goal again. Without it, professional leadership creates dependency, and dependency is the failure mode we are named against.

10| Now the uncomfortable question, which we would rather raise ourselves than have a funder raise for us. What if Maveriqs, across many barrios, do not develop leadership capability at the rate the model assumes? Then PI Light and PI Joint grow from exceptions into the bulk of the work. That would be a different IkoCiti — less "the working poor produce impact," more "the working poor sustain impact that professionals produce." It would still beat the traditional model, because the follow-up would still be local and the data would still accumulate. But the original thesis would have shifted, and we should watch for it rather than explain it away.

11| One thing does not move in any model. Whether Maveriqs lead the build or only handle what comes after, they are the ones still there in six months and in twelve, making sure the thing still works. PI Light adjusts who builds. It does not adjust who stays.
